The Pacific Chamber Orchestra under Maestro Lawrence Kohl performs Handel’s joyous Messiah. Robert Lappa, chorus master, brings together the special PCO chorus. Renowned soloists bring sparkle to the program and the audience is invited to join an encore of the Hallelujah chorus. A holiday tradition not to be missed! Shawnette Sulker, Soprano, and Daniel Cilli, Baritone are well known to Bankhead audiences with their appearances with Pacific Chamber Orchestra, Livermore Valley Opera and throughout the Bay Area. In addition, Betany Coffland, Alto, and Michael Desnoyers, Tenor are performing Handel's Messiah with PCO for their very first time.

Soloist: Shawnette Sulker, Soprano

Shawnette Sulker has been described as a singer “…displaying a bright, superbly controlled soprano with perfectly placed coloratura.” On the operatic stage, Ms. Sulker has been a featured artist in three San Francisco Opera productions: Porgy and Bess, The Mother of Us All, and Louise. A native of Guyana, the soprano has sung leading roles with other companies of note, including Hawaii Opera Theatre, Internationale Opera Producties, and Union Avenue Opera, to name a few.

Soloist: Daniel Cilli, Baritone

​Daniel Cilli made a lively debut with San Francisco Opera this summer as Le Dancairo in Calixto Bieito’s charged and cinematic production of Carmen. Also during 2015-2016 Mr. Cilli performed new works like River of Light by Jack Perla at Festival Opera, Ghosts of Alhambra by George Crumb with the Left Coast Chamber Ensemble, and in historical works like Rossini's L'italiana in Algeri, Bizet's Carmen, and Finzi's in Terra Pax.

Soloist: Bethany Coffland, Alto

Betany Coffland, mezzo-soprano's performances have been hailed by Opera News as “extremely fine” and “a joy to watch,” and her tone has been described by The San Francisco Classical Voice as "plush" and "Italianate". A graduate of The Juilliard School and New England Conservatory of Music, she received the Bori Grant for foreign music study in the Czech language where she studied in Prague. Ms. Coffland was a prize winning finalist in the both the 2010 and 2013 Irene Dalis Competition and the East Bay Opera League Competition. She won the Grand Prize at the Margaret Kimball Competition with Rimrock Opera, and first place in the Treasure Valley Concerto Competition.

Soloist: Michael Desnoyers, Tenor

Sought out for his “rich and resonant” and “sweet, well-projected lyric tenor,” Michael Desnoyers has sung over 50 different roles across San Francisco Bay Area stages, including performances with Opera San Jose, West Bay Opera, West Edge Opera, Festival Opera, Lamplighters Music Theatre, Cinnabar Theatre, Ars Minerva, Pocket Opera, and the Handel Opera Project. Upcoming highlights from 2017 include Rodolfo in La Bohème, Sextus in Giulio Cesare, and the title role in Idomeneo.

Bankhead Theater

Since it opened in 2007, the Bankhead Theater has welcomed a diverse range of artists and audiences, bringing them together to share the rich experience of live performance. The LVPAC Presents series includes more than 40 exceptional performances throughout the year. Music of all genres is presented, from authentic western swing and the Great American Songbook, to classic rock, smooth jazz and world music, as well as dance, acrobatics, theater, and comedy.
